Banana Soup?

Casey hasn’t been feeling well so to help him get through the work day I told him that he could watch the Mavs playoff game and I would make him a special dessert. When I got home, I started to whip up a home made banana pudding from scratch. Now the recipe that I have (just from the internet) does not work. I don’t know who wrote it, but they are clearly not experienced chefs (not to say that I am one either). When I made it for Easter, I stirred it for literally like 30 minutes and had to add a lot more corn starch than called for in order to get it to thicken up. Well, yesterday, I just did not feel like stirring constantly forever. I added additional cornstarch but it still wasn’t quite super thick. I figured it would just thicken up as it was in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, when Casey came over, it was more like banana soup then pudding. We laughed, but of course still ate it, and I told him he was very lucky because how many guys does he know who have girlfriends who can make banana soup?!

Me and My Mummy Wummy

Every girl needs a girls weekend and I got mine a couple days ago… with my favorite girl…my mom! My mom flew out for a visit last weekend and we had so much fun. We shopped, ate at fun places, hung out and talked, and of course, watched girlie movies. Casey got to join in on the fun on Saturday night when we all went out to La Hacienda for dinner. It was so nice to get to see my momma again and jsut do the little things together like sitting on the couch in our pj's and just talking. Those are the things that I missed. Six months is just WAY to long!!! Now I can’t wait until we get to go to San Diego in 5 weeks and get to see my Dad too!!!

PHO-2828

Friday night, Casey planned a nice date for us. He took me to the place where we had our first date and then wanted to follow up by taking me to Swenson’s for an ice cream sundae. He hadn’t been to Swenson’s in years but he kind of remembered where it was. In the place where he remembered Swenson’s being, was now a little Asian diner called PHO-2828 (I’m guessing that’s their phone number too). So we sat in the parking lot while he used his phone to find the location of the nearest Swenson’s. Well, low and behold the location it spit back to us was none other than where PHO-2828 was. Casey said that the Swenson’s had been run by an Asian family so maybe it was the same place. We walked in and they did still have an ice cream bar. However, the overwhelming smell of Asian grill kind of through off the ice cream vibes. The flavors were a little off too (i.e. green tea and plum wine). The lady had already given us taste samples so we felt like we couldn’t leave. I got a scoop of cookie dough and Casey tried to get his classic Braum’s sundae (cookies and cream or black walnut topped with marshmallow cream). The funniest part of the night was watching Casey try to explain to the lady that he wanted marshmallow topping. She just kept saying with a questioning look (strawberry? chocolate?). Finally Casey accepted defeat and just took whip cream. When we left, we felt dirty because we had cheated on our beloved Braum’s for ice cream that wasn’t even that good. Needless to say, we will be returning to Braum’s for our next ice cream craving.

Bikes & BBQs

Saturday, Casey and I had a very fun evening planned. We were going to take our bikes out to some trails we had seen around the lake and go for a nice ride. After the ride, we were going to follow it up with a BBQ and picnic by the lake. Unfortunately, our night did not exactly go as planned. Casey and I had done so much lake exploring that we could not remember where the trails that we wanted to rider were so by the time we found them it was almost sunset. We got in a short ride and then headed back to start the BBQ for the burgers. As I was getting the patties ready, Casey was throwing just about every match we had into the coals that were supposed to be easy to ignite. The coals must have gotten wet from the rain we had a couple weeks ago because they did not want to light. We eventually gave up and went back to my place and I cooked the burgers on the stove. It didn’t work out like we had hoped it would but we laughed it off and still had a great night.

Idol Recap

When Season 8 of American Idol began, I proclaimed that I felt that this was easily the most talented group of singers that any season had ever had. However, as the weeks go on, I am beginning to see some weaker links in the Idol chain. These kids are still talented but they really are just not picking the right song. How many times do the judges need to tell Lil Rounds to sing Mary J. Blidge before she actually listens to them and takes their advice? I feel like the strongest singers are Adam and Allison. Gokey, Matt, and Chris are good too but Allison and Adam just have the performer gene in them. I wish I could say that I had a favorite but I don’t. My pick changes week to week based on whose song I liked the best. Last week is was Matt, this week is was Chris. The one thing I do know is that with all of the talent on the stage, we shouldn’t run into another Taylor Hicks situation. We will definitely end up with a great recording artist in the end!
